Hefner's number two girlfriend reveals benefits of Viagra

by erectiledysfunctiondrugs @ 2007-08-29 - 05:15:08

One of Hugh Hefner's girlfriends has revealed how the American sex icon manages to satisfy all of his lady friends at once.

Number two girlfriend Bridget Marquardt told the Nine Network's Richard Wilkins that Viagra was the Playboy magnate's secret to satisfying his personal harem.

Ms Marquardt also revealed that she enjoyed sharing Hefner's pleasure den with two other girls — Kendra Wilkinson and Holly Madison.

"Everything's together," Ms Marquardt said.

"I enjoy the group dynamic that we have. I don't know if I would know what to do if I had Hef to myself."

Ms Marquardt confessed to sneaking peaks at her dad's Playboy magazines as a child.

"Not for nudity, but I wanted to be beautiful like those girls one day. It set my standard of beauty," she said.

Her childhood dreams of appearing in the magazines were eventually fulfilled — but not without persistence.

"I had tested for the magazine and didn't make it in. So I finished school, moved to LA, got invited to the parties, made friends with some of the girls … and then one day Hef called and said 'Do you want to go out?'"

It's no surprise that her first date with Hef was with 12 girls, but Ms Marquardt, who has now resided at the mansion for five years denies she is starved of intimacy.

"When there were seven girlfriends there was still that intimacy there but now that there's the three of us it's extra close and extra special," she said.

"And it goes beyond just sex. It's being on the same wavelength and the same emotional level too."

Ms Marquardt shares her 81-year-old womaniser with Ms Wilkinson and number one girlfriend Holly Madison.

"As far as girlfirends go, I think Holly holds the record for six years," she said.

Wilkins will interview Holly Madison at the Playboy Mansion tomorrow on today.

Viagra may help treat non-sexual health disorders

by erectiledysfunctiondrugs @ 2007-08-02 - 09:02:55

Viagra, an oral drug for male impotence, may also help treat non-sexual problems like pulmonary hypertension and mountain sickness, says a new study.

Sildenafil, a drug manufactured by Pfizer under the trade name Viagra, has been in the market for the longest amount of time and is the most studied.

Viagra is now also marketed under the name Revatio for the treatment of pulmonary hypertension - the uncommon but serious disorder of high pressure in the blood vessels leading to the lungs. The condition leads to shortness of breath, dizziness, fainting and other symptoms.

The new report on the use of Viagra appeared in the August 2007 issue of Harvard Men's Health Watch.

Although it's yet not clear if the other erectile dysfunction pills offer similar benefits, but Viagra may prove useful for some other conditions like mountain sickness, Raynaud's phenomenon and heart disease, reported health portal News Medical.

Mountain sickness is an illness that ranges from a mild headache and weariness to a life-threatening build-up of fluid in the lungs or brain at high altitudes.

The report said Viagra could reduce pulmonary artery pressure at high altitude and improve the ability to exercise in low oxygen conditions.

Raynaud's Phenomenon is a condition in which poor blood flow results in discomfort and skin colour changes in affected parts of the body. If left untreated or uncontrolled, it can affect fingers, toes, ears, nose and knees. There is no cure for the disease but it can be controlled in most cases.

Both Viagra and Levitra, another ED medication, have been helpful in clinical trials, the report said.

Studies also suggest that Viagra might help patients with congestive heart failure.

Viagra boosts heart performance

by erectiledysfunctiondrugs @ 2007-07-13 - 07:04:09

Edmonton, Alberta -- Canadian medical scientists have discovered Viagra, a popular drug used to treat erectile dysfunction, can also improve heart function.

University of Alberta researchers said their finding should encourage physicians to consider the drug when a patient has a failing right ventricle -- a condition for which no treatments are currently available.

"There are a number of medical conditions in both children and adults for which there is a need to boost the performance of the right ventricle, and this drug can be clinically and immediately relevant to help these patients," said Dr. Jayan Nagendran, the study's first author. "Sometimes the right ventricle can fail rapidly and even result in death, like in lung transplant surgery, for example. In such a case, Viagra may increase the right ventricle's performance and save the patient."

Dr. Evangelos Michelakis, senior author of the study, said the finding might be the first example of a drug that can improve the function of the right ventricle, which is diseased in pulmonary hypertension, without affecting the left ventricle, which is normal in pulmonary hypertension.

The research is to appear in next week's issue of the journal Circulation.

Weak erections point to disease

by erectiledysfunctiondrugs @ 2007-06-21 - 11:16:42

IT'S a problem that affects about 30 per cent of men aged over 40, though few would admit it.

But erectile dysfunction -- the persistent inability to get or maintain an erection - is more than just an embarrassing secret.

It could be a symptom of serious disease.

Associate Prof Doug Lording, from the Melbourne Andrology Centre at Cabrini Hospital, said International Men's Health Week was the perfect time to warn men that more than their sex lives could be at risk.

"It is now recognised that all the conditions which cause heart disease, like diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, smoking, and obesity, are all linked to erectile dysfunction," he said.

"Even men who are not really looking to seek treatment to restore sexual function should talk to their local doctor about this problem, so they can get proper medical attention."

Underlying health problems are just some of the many possible causes of erectile dysfunction.

Medications and psychological problems such as performance anxiety, relationship difficulties, stress and depression can also interfere with a man's ability to get and keep an erection.

A 2004 survey by men's reproductive health group Andrology Australia found at least one in five men aged over 40 experienced erectile dysfunction. Prof Lording said other studies had found the figure was closer to 30 per cent.

The Andrology Australia survey also found that despite 80 per cent of men visiting their GP in the previous 12 months, most of those with erectile dysfunction failed to discuss it with their doctor.

Prof Lording said men's attitudes to their health were changing but they, and often their doctors, still needed encouragement to talk about such problems.

Andrology Australia chief executive Dr Carol Holden agreed interest in men's health was growing.

She said the number of organisations supporting International Men's Health Week had more than tripled in two years.

The group is helping to get the message out by distributing 50,000 cards in the shape of Y-front underpants, which open to reveal alarming men's health statistics, including on infertility, prostate cancer, testicular cancer and erectile dysfunction.

Prof Lording said the risk of erectile dysfunction increased with age.

"For a lot of men in middle age and older, there remains an intense desire to be sexually active and demonstrate their manliness," he said.

"There's often a time of life, towards the end of a busy working career and when the children have left home, where there's a strong feeling to rekindle some of the intimacy there hasn't been time for.

"But alas, they find things don't work quite as well."

Prof Lording said most men could be treated. Oral medications such as Viagra were the most popular approach.

"There is huge demand for these medications," he said.

"These are among the biggest private prescription-selling drugs in the world."

But at $65 to $80 for a pack of four tablets, the treatment was not cheap.

Vacuum devices, injections, hormone therapy, penile prosthetic implants and lifestyle changes were other options that could be discussed with GPs.

Cialis clinical trial patients report positive results

by erectiledysfunctiondrugs @ 2007-05-03 - 05:51:38

Lilly Icos LLC, the joint venture of Bothell-based Icos Corp. and Eli Lilly & Co. of Indianapolis, said Monday that 79 percent of patients in a recent clinical study of erectile dysfunction drug Cialis reported positive results.... .

The follow-on study was designed to determine efficacy and safety of the drug. Only 5 percent of the program's 207 participants discontinued the study because of adverse reactions, most commonly for headache, back pain and upset stomach, the company said.

Cialis is already approved for use in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore, and a U.S. Food and Drug Administration decision on use of Cialis in the United States is due during the second half of this year.

The company also said that the results of a study of the long-term safety of the drug in phase 3 study participants for at least a year were similar to the short-term safety data, with about 5 percent discontinuing treatment because of side effects such as headaches and upset stomach.

Viagra: A double-edged sword for men

by erectiledysfunctiondrugs @ 2007-04-13 - 09:34:54

Erectile-dysfunction drugs Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra may be the answer to many men’s physical inadequacies, but these pills do not offer any help in untangling the emotional and relationship pressures that frequently accompany the condition.

‘Sexuality in Midlife and Beyond’, a new report compiled by researchers at Harvard Medical School, suggest that the medications work only if the man is feeling sexual desire for his partner, but if emotional issues are impinging on libido, the pills will not help.

The 48-page report says that if a man struggling with Erectile Dysfunction is embarrassed that he is no longer willing to attempt sexual activity, his partner may mistakenly believe that he is no longer attracted to her. She may assume that her partner’s newfound erections are merely a chemical phenomenon, not the result of his interest in her.

Sex therapy may be more helpful in dealing with such cases, rather than dependence on erectile-dysfunction drugs, says the report.

It advises that couples should try to regard these drugs as an opportunity to renew their sexual relationship, while realising that ED drugs are neither a mandate to have intercourse nor a panacea for every problem in the bedroom.
